CHALLENGE

A super fun and unique client asked if Spot On Creative could develop and illustrate a line of high-spirited characters that would be featured on a new E-commerce website. They required that the crew of characters have “personality”, they had to be “bad ass” but “friendly” and “appealing”. OK, sounds awesome. The kicker? The characters needed to be naked mole rats. What? Yes, naked mole rats. An animal that isn’t typically high on the cute and cuddly list. The E-commerce website would primarily showcase merchandise.

SPOT ON SOLUTION

We engaged our best illustrator to show our client how the combination of body shape, posture, anatomy, facial expression, dress, color, and movement can bring a character to life. After a few iterations, the two main characters of Naked Mole Rats emerged. We were amped to present Chuck and Angel to our client. We planned to create a logo and tagline that personified the charisma and individuality of the characters as well as develop a website that was full of personality and character.

RESULTS

Chuck, Angel, and their crew - striking, memorable characters with uniquely strong personalities, came to life as Naked Mole Rats. The characters and their slogan “Be Cool…Be Naked!” donned their unique and fun merchandise and became best-sellers.
